Mark de Paola Upcoming Workshop | May 17-19th
Join Mark de Paola at Leica Store San Francisco on May 17-19th for an intensive three-day workshop exploring the artistic process behind his series Recent Work. This workshop is designed for photographers of all experience levels interested in furthering their photographic vision and style. The program offers a retreat-like experience punctuated by in-class lectures, discussions and reviews.
Participants should be open to exploring multiple photographic genres and exploring their emotional response to shape, design and color as well as experiencing the camera as an extension of their own bodies or as a loose paintbrush rather than as a mechanical device.
Mark’s latest book Recent Work, which was recently added to the permanent collections at both the MoMA NY and The Getty, will be the source reference to help prompt participants to tap into their instinctual emotions to make photographs that are more visual rather than just beautiful. Each photographer will be motivated and focused to find meaning in striking, blurred and saturated forms rather than posed or created throughout the weekend.
The workshop begins with a Friday evening reception including introductions, exhibition walk-through and lecture. The following two days will be spent photographing at multiple pre-scouted locations in San Francisco with exercises prompted by de Paola. Saturday will be spent visiting different landscape locations, urban streets, and spaces with interesting elemental textures. The workshop will continue on Sunday with photographing at an additional location, in class discussion, reviews and conclude with a final shooting assignment to depart with.
Don't miss this opportunity to experience de Paola's intimate creative process and open the horizon of your unique photographic style.
